One the best view in town, the church of San Cataldo is one of the memories of the arab domination in Sicily, its structure infact is not the one of the normal Christian Curch but the shape and the architecture are more arab than christian. Founded by the Admiral Guglielmo Maione, it was built around 1154, and it's now the house of the order of chivalry of the Holy Sepulchre. This Church had a long and troubled story, it had even served, till 1882, as post office. Now due the renovation works held by Giuseppe Patricolo the Church of San Cataldo is back in its full splendor. Walking by via Maqueda, it's easy to mistake it for a islamic buliding, this is due to the particular square shape, and to the famous four small, red, domes that you can see even from the distance, aganist the beautiful blue sky of Palermo. This church in the heart of the city center, is one of the most famous of Palermo, a city full of them, but no one is like San Cataldo, a symbol of the syincretism, and of the cosmopolitan vocation of the city of Palermo. San Cataldo along with the charming Teatro Bellini, makes Piazza Bellini, one of the best view in Palermo. Come to this beautiful city, Palermo is full of beauty!
